À propos de l'événement

Organized to launch the Zoryan Institute’s newest publication, The Chinese Diaspora: Its Development in Global Perspective, volume co-editor Lok Siu will be joined by Prof. Min Zhou of UCLA, and Prof. Chris Lee of the University of British Colombia, to contextualize the importance of this book in today’s global climate among geopolitical competition, COVID-19, and more.

In this webinar, scholars will be discussing current issues related to the Chinese diaspora, including:
  • What does it mean to be diasporic Chinese today? Key issues confronting Chinese Americans and their different responses in order to understand how shifting geopolitics between China and the US affect a sense of belonging, cultural affinities, and political positions (Prof. Lok Siu, UC Berkeley)
  • The impact of COVID-19: the rise in racism directed against Chinese Canadians and its responses (Prof. Chris Lee, University of British Colombia)
  • The challenges that US-China geopolitical competition create for diasporic Chinese communities (Prof. Min Zhou, UCLA)
This webinar is hosted in partnership with the Zoryan Institute, UCLA’s Asia Pacific Center, and UC Berkeley’s Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies.
