Populism, Identity and Religion in South Asia and Latin America

This second session of the Seminar Expressions, traditions and institutions. Formation of the political in South Asia and Beyond is an attempt to look upon the relationships between ongoing structural transformations and moral imaginaries, and how it affects a) ethnic and religious boundaries b) political narratives and public sphere. Since the financial melt-down of 2008 the populist type of politics is getting seem around the world. The rise of populism simultaneously depends on and reinforce a particular religio-cultural imaginary. How the different groups imagine and reimagine themselves have important social and political implications.
We will discuss some of these issue in this session using case studies from South Asia and Latin America.
