Ethnicité et dynamiques historiques d’intégration politique et culturelle

Le séminaire introduit à l’analyse des relations complexes qui se sont instituées entre les populations occupant les zones de montagnes et/ou de forêts, soit une vaste partie de l’Asie du Sud-Est continentale, et les pouvoirs centraux, coloniaux puis nationaux. Les études sur ces populations dites des marges ont généralement contribué à alimenter une perception antagoniste, soit se situant dans la perspective d’une dilution inéluctable des cultures minoritaires dans les cultures nationales imposées, soit, à l’inverse, mettant en exergue la résistance des minorités ethniques ou leur « fuite » durable au cours de l’histoire face à la logique de contrôle étatique. À partir de l’analyse comparée d’ethnographies détaillées, nous proposons de complexifier cette vision dichotomisée, et par trop réductrice, en montrant des phénomènes d’interaction, d’interdépendance, voire d’appropriation mutuelle entre « centres » et « marges » dans l’histoire récente de l’Asie du Sud-Est.
