Visiting Graduate Researcher Application

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

(Gmail account required) or download a pdf of the application form.

Each year, the Yanai Initiative invites up to five visiting graduate researchers from non-US institutions —VGRs for short—to UCLA, where they spend one ten-week quarter participating in graduate seminars; attending lectures, symposia, and other academic or cultural events; and socializing with students and faculty, including other visitors. The Yanai Initiative provides a round-trip ticket to and from Los Angeles, housing in a UCLA apartment, and a fellowship to cover living expenses during the VGR's stay.

In order to ensure that each VGR has the best possible experience at UCLA, as a rule we host no more than two at any given time: one to two each in the fall, winter, and spring quarters. The fall quarter lasts from late September to December; the winter quarter from early January to the middle of March; and the spring quarter from late March to early June.

If you would like to apply for one of the Yanai Initiative's visiting graduate researcher positions at UCLA during the 2025-2026 academic year, please complete this application and upload these materials by March 31, 2025:

• Research statement and reason for applying (500 words in English or 1000 characters in Japanese)

• A copy of your academic transcript

• Curriculum vitae
